Gum Bichromate

Lately, I’ve been exploring the gum bichromate alternative photographic process to expand my artistic practice.

The process is based on the creation of 4 digital negatives to produce a series of black, cyan, magenta, and yellow layers using contact printing under UV light for each image.  There are many steps that give the photographer considerable creativity:

  • converting the image into a set of 4 digital negatives
  • determining the proper recipe for the gum/pigment/dichromate light-sensitive solution
  • the choice of paper
  • the exposure time to UV light
  • the development of the print after exposure

The joys of this process are the “analog” hands-on approach, the inherent “serendipity”/variations, the creative input and problem-solving, and the truly unique and original results!  I hope you agree.
